[Trip] Montreal, QC

Montreal, the city of smoked meat sandwiches. That was enough to make Chris and I return again and again. After a 6 hour drive, Chris and I arrived Friday night.

Day 1 – Saturday July 31, 2009

First thing Saturday morning, we woke up and went to Schwartz with Karen and Nhan to enjoy the smoked meat sandwiches. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to wait because it was still early enough that most people were sleeping in. It was still one of the best sandwiches ever! And, if you pair it up with the black cherry pop, it even enhances the sandwich… even if your not a huge fan of the cherry pop!

Taste Rating: 6/5 - OMFG GOOD! Schwartz Montreal, QC Canada

Next, Chris and I separated from the group and heading to La Ronde, Six Flags, where there is an International Fireworks competition show happening every Saturday night in the summer.  We went on most of the rides and rollercoasters, including Goliath, Canada’s biggest and tallest before Behemoth at Wonderland, Monster, Canada’s Longest Wooden Rollercoaster and my newly FAVOURITE suspense roller coaster, The Vampire (same track as Batman, The Ride). The Vampire was so smooth (not like head-banging Top gun) and so fast, I LOVED IT.

^ On the monorail to see what rides to ride on... Chris was pretending to sleep

Enjoyed our first Beavertails and I had a yummy pina colada smoothie.

Chris and I also went on our first ferris wheel watching the Montreal skyline with the sun setting.

The best part was to come. We ended up waiting around for 2-3 hours for the fireworks since we had finished all the rides and Chris was getting tired. But it was worth the wait. The show was incredible. Best soundtrack synchronized with the fireworks with hit songs like Michael Jackson, YMCA, Dancing Queen and Sandstorm (Chris’s ultimate favourite song).  After like 30 seconds into the show, Chris and I were like “holy fak, this is the best show ever” and after the show, my jaw was dropped and I could feel myself shaking.

The night ended with a quick clubbing experience at Tokyo for our friend, Chauncey’s birthday and then we passed out back at the hotel.

Day 2 – Sunday August 1, 2009

We started Sunday morning with Brunch at L’avenue. After seeing the great reviews, I was determined to try it myself. We must have waited in line for about 1 hour but it was worth it.

Their steak and eggs benedict was great.

They weren’t your typical Cora’s family breakfast place, this place was hip and modern. Be sure to check out their bathroom. It is creepy in a very artistic way.

Chris and I departed the group again and went to Le Scandinavian Spa to get much-needed massages. It was insanely relaxing and felt SO good. The spa had 2 sauna rooms (Mist Sauna and a Dry Sauna) and two baths (one hot, one cold). After being in the sauna and hot bath, I was nervous to go into the cold but once I shrieked and dropped my body in, it was insanely refreshing. It was like sitting in AC but wet. Next, Chris and I just relaxed and rested on these comfortable beanbag beds. This is pretty much my first and best spa experience! Now, I’m hooked… I want more! Finally, we left and boy did we feel energized. Chris even surprised me with cupcakes <3 after the bath!

We went for Dinner with everyone at Brassier 3 and ate something called Flamm –like a pizza/flatbread but better. Pretty good but I saved lots of room for dessert because I was determined to try Juliette et Chocolat, a dessert place that features chocolate. I had their Fruit, Ice Cream and Melted Chocolate Crepe. Oh my, it was the best crepe I have ever tasted! The fruit was so fresh, chocolate was not too strong or too sweet, ice cream was creamy and smooth and the crepe was just perfect. After a nice chat with our friends Olivia and Adner, we went back to the hotel and crashed.

Mmmm one of the best crepes

Day 3 – Monday August 2, 2009

The next day, Chris, Karen, Nhan and I drove to eat the montreal poutine at La Banquise.

Poutine

It was pretty good but not enough to ‘wow’ me… maybe because I prefer my cheese curds melted. We picked up some fresh bagels from Fairmount Bagels, which smelled delicious and an extra smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz for the drive back. The 6-hour drive back didn’t feel that long because we had lots of good laughs with company for the ride back!

Next upcoming trip… New York City.
