I’m all about trying new things and so rollerskating (yes rollerskates not blades) was going to be new and different. My friends and I went to Scooters Roller Palace and boy was it a sight to see.

Rollerskating was definitely a rage in the 70s and 80s so naturally you have all these older generations being pros at this. They were doing spins, kicks and jumps. One guy even had LEDs on his rollerskates. They all really got into the music and was jamming with their skates. I felt like I went back to the 70s.

After a few fast classic 80s party favourites, the DJ (this guy is also like in his 50s or 60s), would slow things down and let couples waltz or slow dance in rollerskates! All the single people would generally leave the rink but there were even a few men that waltz by themselves without a partner. This reminded me of those highschool dances back in the day. I bet a lot of people in the 70s & 80s hooked up on the rinks.

I was okay on rollerskates. It was easy to balance but harder to turn. It was actually a lot of fun (but also dangerous b/c you could fall and hit your head). The toughest part was getting into the middle of the rink. You see, the outside is the fast lane for all the pros and the middle is for the beginners. The challenge was like driving a car that wouldn’t go more than 60 km/h and your trying to merge to the left lane with cars zooming by at 120km/h. Yes collisons could definately happen but luckily not to me that night. Haha, I had to even get chaporone through the traffic by a staff memeber on his skates.

Try it out sometime (on a SLOW less people night). I’ll definitely be back.
