[Trip] Frankfurt, Germany

Day 1 – May 13, 2011

We landed in Frankfurt after a  long 7 hour flight with freezing AC. We headed to our Hotel and then I initated to get ice cream right away at a higly recommended place called Eis Christina.

On the way there, we missed our stop via the streetcar/underground way train because the door wouldn’t open for us. We kept pressing the open button but it wouldn’t open. The train started to move at regular speed. Mike was saying “Maybe its safer this way by pressing a button to open” THEN I step lightly on a step and BANG! The doors opened while the train was moving high speed. Holy Geez… not so safe! The germans laughed at us and they have never seen it happen before.

Doors that just pop open

Wow! The ice cream was really fresh and they had a unique pasta ice cream concept… ice cream shaped like pasta such as spagetti noodles or lasagne sheets.

We headed to Zeil shopping district to browse around and do light shopping. The main mall myZeil had beautiful architecture and we spend most of our time admiring and photographing it. The lego store inside the mall had the COOLEST interactive display. When you hold a box of lego… a 3D image of what is inside the box shows up!

We picked a random German restaurant and I had a Grilled Turkey Schnizel. It was really good! After dinner we headed up to Main Tower to get a view of Frankfurt from up high during sunset. We stopped by the beautiful Old Opera house. It was very romantic and lovely.

Day 2 – May 14, 2011

We started the day walking along the river while observing the Street Flea Market.

Stopped at the Communication Museum, which was interesting to see how communication has changed through the years; mail, telephone, email etc. The phone sheep were great.

Picked up some street meat, Bratswurst for lunch and they had the best ketchup dispenser. It was such smart design!

As we crossed the river, we saw these love locks with couples’ names one it. Ate apple strudel which was too tangy for my liking. Romerberg was really nice and very german. I loved the architecture around there.

We also found a great picture spot and used the ledge as a tripod for our photos.

Walked around and holy crap Maggi is a resturant and a huge store here! Not just seasoning sauce… they had all these meal kits like Sidekicks.

Another great store was Bitter & Zart for chocolate and candies. Too bad I was afraid to buy some since it may melt in Greece.

Heading to another trendy area for dinner and found a nice design shop, Collekt with fun gifts and gallery.

The shop keeper was really sweet and recommend a nice german dinner place nearby. I tried this Frankfurt green sauce made from sour cream and herbs on Schnizel with potatos. It was also very good!

Called it a nice earlier as we need to wake up at 2:15am to catch a bus to our flight to Greece.
