[Trip] Mykonos, Greece

Day 1 – May 19, 2011

We started this day departing Santorini on a ferry heading for Mykonos. The weather was gloomy and it was raining during our trip. Once we got to Mykonos at 3:00pm, it was cloudy and rainy but it didn’t defer us from exploring the island. We checked into Hotel Aeolos with the friendly owner, who gave us a map of where to go and what to see.

We headed the Chora, Mykonos Town soon after to hunt for dinner. Wow! The town was just as I pictured Greece to be -cube white buildings with blue doors and windows. I instantly fell in love with this island even more than Santorini.

We went Tavern Nikos for our late, which was recommended by the owner and tripadvisor. However, we were quite disappointed as I thought my meal was nothing special.

Nikos Tavern

Something did come out of this meal tho, since I decided to explore outside of the restaurant while waiting for the meal and the sun came out.  Mike followed me and we found the famous Mykonos pelican! It wandered into someone’s kitchen and we went in to shoot it.

After the kitchen’s owner made the pelican come out, we followed it and took some fun photos as well. It also bit Mike’s leg but apparently it has no teeth.

Windy day!

We wandered around the town some more hunting for souvenirs and there were many shops from clothing, jewelry souvenirs to art galleries.  We also went to the famous five windmills and little Venice.

Day 2 – May 20, 2011

I woke up early this morning and made use of the hotel hot tub. This tub was actually hot and it was surprisingly relaxing. We had our free breakfast buffet from the hotel and rented a car to start driving to different beaches.

The first beach we stopped at was Super Paradise and WOW! It was really amazing. It was still early so no one was there but the sand was soft and the water was a beautiful clear blue.

We ventured to Paradise Beach after, which still had clear blue water but I found the sand to be more rough. There were more people as well including naked ones.

We then tried to make way to another beach called Elia Beach and ended up getting lost in someone’s garage. At the same time, a older lady came into the garage and we startled her! We told her we were lost so she offered to lead us in the right way since she was going out anyways. She is Swiss but she apparently lives all over Europe! What a life.  We got to Elia Beach but it was nothing special… even worst than Paradise in terms of sand quality.

I made everyone stop at this pastry shop, Epoca since I haven’t been to a Greek one yet and I’m glad I did! This place had AMAZING mousse cakes & desserts. Mike and I shared a brownie and vanilla mousse cake, while Dru had the cheesecake. I must say, BEST thing I had during this trip AND mousse cake/cheese cake I’ve ever had. It was so smooth, creamery and just the right sweetness.

So after all that, we went back to Super Paradise Beach to rest and tan. This was definitely the best beach in my opinion! Too bad the water was too cold to swim in. On the way to Super Paradise Beach, our manual car kept stalling because Mike isn’t that pro with manual… going on a steep uphill with the engine cutting out is scary… we kept rolling back but we made it out safety. Funny tho!

Around 3pm, we headed back to Chora, Mykonos Town to get some food and some new photos of the area since the ones from the day before was so cloudy. Once again, I loved the town and it was even more beautiful in the sun.

We picked a place that looked busy called Mourayio, and ate there for lunch. I ordered the expensive $30 Fresh Grilled Lemon Sea bass but it was well worth it!  One of the best fish I think I’ve had –nice and crispy outside with a soft inside.

We headed back to the Hotel to be driven to the Mykonos Airport to depart for Athens. Bye bye Greek islands, how I enjoyed you!
