[Trip] Smugglers Notch Resort, Vermont
Chris and I joined a snowboarding group called DCevents. DCevents is a non-for-profit group that organizes snowboarding/ski trips and other social activities. I was eager to attend one of their Vermont trips and Smuggs was the right time and price.
Day 1 – Friday, Mar 8
After a long night on the bus, we made it to smuggs around 10:30am. Luckily, we had early check in so we got our room early. The room was super clean and spacious for the 8 of us.
We unpacked, ate a quick lunch and hit the slopes! Smuggs has three mountains with over 77 runs. We did most of the blues. We started on the greens on Morse Mountain (2,000 ft high) and then moved to Madonna Mountain (3,640 ft high). The view from Madonna was spectacular! Just as nice as tremblant but had a different feel. The runs were tighter and they were surrounded by pine trees.
The lift lines are long and the lifts are slow but this meant that you aren’t sharing the runs with many people.
We got about 4-5 runs in an then headed back to find dinner.
We had dinner at Morse Mountain Grill and I really enjoyed my salad. A few of us headed to the hot tub and pool for a bit before crashing to bed
Day 2 – Saturday, Mar 9
Adam, Chi and I started with a run on Madonna Mountain and we had a blast. Adam almost falls, Chi falls and I wipe out shortly after too. It’s hard to snowboard while recording!
Today, we explored The third mountain, Sterling Mountain and it had some great beautiful runs. But you need to watch out you don’t end up on a Black diamond which is what happened to us. We survived of course but it wasn’t very fun.
Around 2pm, we headed back to our room and met up with Chris. Poor babe, twisted his knee. Awe! We had some snacks and went on the excursion to Essex outlets, button flagship store and Burlington Vermont. The outlets were small but I managed to pick up some sweet gym clothes at Under Armour. The flagship store was nice but not heavily discounted but I managed to get new gloves with built in wrist protectors. Finally, Burlington was a very nice walking area with unique shops but most of them were closed and instead we headed to Blue Cat Cafe and Wine Bar for steak. Good steak but not the best.
Day 3 – Sunday Mar 10
We cleaned up and checked out of the room. Adam, Chi and I did a few more runs on Madonna until it was time for a late lunch at 2pm. We met up with injured Chris and ate at Morse Mountain Grill again. After lunch, we packed up and loaded the bus. The bus ride back went super smooth… In fact, there wasn’t even border control at the gate… Just a toll booth guy… Easiest crossing ever!
It was a great trip with lots of snowboarding. I’ve never snowboarded that much consecutively before. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again next year but to another resort… Planning on Jay’s Peak!
