[Trip] Washington, DC

We were back to Washington DC this Easter to try to see the Cherry blossoms that we were too late for last year. Sadly, this year we were too early and they didn’t bloom yet! Very disappointing but it was a nice weekend getaway with my family.

Day 1 – Friday March 28, 2013

We flew out Saturday morning and landed around 1pm. We checked into L’Enfant Plaza Hotel and grabbed some food from a mediterranean place called Roti —quite good! We walked towards the National Mall where all the smithsonian museum are and stopped at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden.

We headed to the Museum of National History next. We spent about 3-4 here exploring all the exhibits showcasing animals, dinosaurs, geology and bugs.

We headed to Chinatown and Penn’s Quarter after to find dinner and see the area. It was a busy area… Kinda like Toronto’s Yonge and Dundas. In the end, we just ate at Panera Bread. Exhausted from all the walking, we headed back to the hotel and on the way, we got to see Capitol Hill.

Day 2 – Saturday March 29, 2013

We started the morning going up the Old Post Office Tower for a free aerial view of the city. Too bad there were wires blocking the view. After that, we walk towards Tidal Basin to see if there were any early blooms. Nope! There was only one poor dinky tree that bloomed but it wasn’t attractive at all!

Sigh. Disappointed, we took the metro to Georgetown, a nice walking and shopping area. It was way too crowded though. So we headed to the Pentagon Mall instead for some shopping at Marshalls, Macy’s and Normstrom.

Day 3 – Sunday March 30, 2013

We went towards Capitol Hill to take some photos and go to the National Botanical Garden. Since it was early, there weren’t many people so we got to take some nice shots in front of the building.

We went into the garden after and saw an abundance of flowers and plants. It was nice and I enjoyed it. No cherry blossoms in here though…

Pretty Flower

We went in the American Indian Museum for a quick peek and it showed native history artifacts. It was okay but not that interesting to me.With about 30 minutes left, we went into the Air and Space Museum and I had saw a few exhibits. This museum was jammed pack with people…

We walked back to our hotel, picked up our luggage and took the bus to the airport. It was a nice trip but I would have enjoyed it more if the cherry blossoms bloomed. On my travels, I’m more interested in nature sights than architecture and museums. I also have the most fun photographing people and things (hence Sunday was my favourite day). Oh well, I’ll be back to see the cherry blossoms eventually.
