City Chase
City Chase is a urban scavenger race throughout the city. Racers will have to complete as many chasepoints they can within the allotted time. The first team to finish all challenges within the shortest amount of time, wins. The original race format is 6 hours, in teams of two. However, new this year, the 2 hour rush format is done individually.
Seven of us signed up for the 2 hour rush since there was a discounted group buy deal. We got there around 10:30am and listened to the welcome presentation. The presentation explained the format and also gave us some tips. After it was done, they announced where we can find the chasepoint location sheet. People ran to get the sheets, including Adam, Chi and Miranda. Sabrina, Sameer, Chris and I decided to start with the chasepoint next to us since the announcer told us that was chasepoint #3.
Chasepoint #3 – Scion Says
Like ‘Simon says’, we do what the chasepoint leader tells us if she says “Scion Says” We had to do the Macarena and the sit in a Scion car. Then we had to do ten push-ups and sit in the car. This chasepoint was easy and quick but confusing since the leader didn’t explain the rules very well and we had to sign some random waivers.
Chasepoint #7 – Tightrope walking
Next, we ran for a good 2 kilometer to the furthest chasepoint and found many the did the same. We waited in line for 5 minutes and then walked on two ropes tied between two trees. The ropes were thick, the tension was tight and it wasn’t very high. You can use your friend walking next to you as support too. Easy!
Chasepoint #6 – Sledge Hockey
Located next to the last chasepoint, we walked over to chasepoint #6. The line was massive! We waited for a good 10-15 minutes. Once it was my turn, it was pretty easy. You have to maneveur yourself between three pylons with the puck and then shoot it in.
Chasepoint #10 – Kangoo Jumps
We ran south and lined up to be fitted in Kangoo Boots. Sabrina and I wore these before at a aerobics class so we were pro. We had to run around a block and do an short obstacle course. Tiring but no problem!
Chasepoint #9 – Photo/Video scavenger
From a list, we had to pick a few things to take a photo or video of. Some of the things were tough like take a picture of a 2003 coin but some were easy like take a photo of a team mate doing a yoga pose on a bench. We whizzed through this.
Chasepoint #8 – Cheerleading
This one was another quick one where we just follow the cheerleaders and do a cheer.
It was 12:45pm by the time we wrapped up Chasepoint #8. We had to run back by 1:00pm so we headed back to the starting point, Nathan Phillips square. We finished 6 out of 10 which was average. Chi, Adam and Miranda finished 7/10. The results are a bit skewed and not that accurate… So don’t be disappointed if you are really competitive.
The chasepoints we missed were as follows;
Chasepoint #2
Take a dip in the pool and a floating duck with the matching number of a sinking puck.
Chasepoint #4
Pick chocolate bar from a bin and burn that many calories on a exercise machine.
Chasepoint #5
Throw candied cherries in the air and catch one with a tiny sword pick in your mouth OR/ mix some drinks and be a bartender.
Chasepoint #1
Not sure.. You can only do this checkpoint if you fundraiser $50 before the event.
It was fun but based on what I’ve heard and seen photos of, the 6 hour challenges would have been more interesting and different. Next year, I’m going to sign up for the 6 hour city chase with Chris.
