Chasing Dreams

Relocation: it’s been on my mind for a few years… Ever since a recruiter from company in San Francisco reached out to me in 2011. Nothing came out of it but planted the seed in my head. As time went by my passion for travel and adventure grew and a few of my friends also relocated. My mind was set to moving away more and more—even if its just temporary.

The Portfolio & Resume

Every designer knows getting your work together is the hardest part. No one wants to come home from work to spend more time working on your portfolio. I slacked on this for over a year being busy with my hobbies and traveling. But I finally dedicated myself to it and over the span of three months, I finished it.

Portfolio & Resume

I created a logo and style. I wrote all the case studies. I gathered all the artwork. I built the website. I put everything together in the best way possible to sell myself. I felt so accomplished once it was done especially since its been on my mind for a while.

Applications

This was the easy part. I sent out applications and within a week I quickly got interest. I guess all that effort into perfecting my portfolio was worth it. It is also helpful there is a huge demand for designers out west! Before I knew it, I had booked a couple first phone interviews.

Lots of emails

Interviews

I had virtual interviews with different companies in various locations. I had positive feedback and it is fulfilling to hear others’ approval and praise of your work. No words can explain this type of joy and satisfaction.

My Portfolio Presentation

It was a long process and I had a total of 32 interviews (combining virtual, face-to-face and phone screens) for 7 opportunities. This doesn’t include design exercises/challenges either!

The one

Some opportunities didn’t work out. That’s expected… and perhaps fate. But in the end… One did and that’s all I need. It’s unbelievable. Through this, there have been stressful and disappointing moments but also happy and exciting times. What a great journey… Well actually it’s only the prologue beginning of this adventure. See you in Seattle!
