Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta will always have a special place in my heart because we got married there and had the time of our lives with 60 of our friends and family. One of the top reasons, we chose to have a destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort was to spend time with our guests as much as possible. And this was the only thing that went according to plan.
Hyatt Ziva Resort
The resort was everything we expected and it was perfectly sized to ensure we can easily bump into our guests, hang out and plan dinners. The garden grounds were well kept, the views were spectacular and everyone was happy with their stay. Our only complaint was the bed could have been more comfortable and breathable.
Los Arcos National Park
It was a unique moment to have my family, Chi’s family and some of our friends share private catamaran as we ventured out to Los Arcos National Park for snorkeling. Through the weather wasn’t cooperating and a lot of people got motion sickness, it was still quite a sight to see everyone (including my parents) try snorkeling.
Sayulita & Surfing
Sayulita lived up to its expectation as a hippie boho surf town and it was a good day to learn how to surf. The fish tacos and fresh juices were delicious and the only thing I wished for was more time to shop and wander. It was great to see our group surfing and our parents relaxing on the beach watching us play.
Old Town Puerto Vallarta / Gringo Gulch
I loved the colonial architecture, colorful textures and patterns, and lush greenery throughout the town. It was charming and romantic, which made it perfect for our day-after photoshoot. I also roamed with my family around Malecon, the iconic boardwalk, Lady of Guadalupe church and found some cheap street tacos.
Las Caletas / Rhythm of the Nights
It was even more beautiful in real life than in photos. It would have been our perfect wedding location but there is no do-over… It will always remain in my heart as “the one that got away…”
Hidden Beach
Despite the horrid weather at the start of our trip, this day had the most perfect weather conditions. During sunrise, we took an exhilarating speedboat ride to Marietas Islands and then jumped in the water to swim through a tunnel to access Hidden Beach. It was wild and not easy.
I started strong by getting to the mouth of the tunnel with ease but the current pulled me back and I thought I would never make it. I kept kicking and swimming but not moving anywhere… I felt I would be thrown against rocks or pulled out of the tunnel if I stopped kicking. I even held onto Hongli who was holding onto the guide at one point… but then everyone made it inside. As I rested and caught my breath, it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
Next came, the return journey—swimming back out of the tunnel. The tide rose higher as the tunnel became completely submerged in between waves. But we were going with the current so it was easier, but still scary in case we were pulled back in. I made it out but Chi was caught under the wave so he had to hold his breath and his helmet was pressed at the roof of the tunnel. Luckily, it was only for a few seconds…. but he was still terrified. We all made it back safe and sound but I don’t think I’d attempt it again. Once in a lifetime experience and bucket list checked.
