2018 Reflections & Goals
2018 marked three life milestones, a major house renovation, getting married in Mexico and getting our first car in Seattle. It was a busy year and our friends were always surprised and impressed that we were tackling a wedding and home renovation at the same time. It wasn’t too bad, we focused on the house from Jan to June, and then switch to wedding planning from July to Oct. And after the wedding, we were lucky enough to enjoy a month-long honeymoon, one week in Mexico and three in Thailand. And then we closed the year off with a big gift for ourselves, a new Mazda CX-5 for our 2019 adventures.
2018 Goals
I set pretty easy goals in 2017 because I knew exactly what 2018 had in store…
[X] Get the house in better shape – So close but still a lot of exterior to tackle next summer
[X] Get into wedding shape
[X] Get married
[X] See Rainer’s wild flowers
[ ] Visit Palouse falls
[X] Visit Multnomah Falls & Eastern Oregon
[X] Take Chi to Los Angeles
2018 Highlights
Home Interior
Our interior went from disgusting to everything I ever wanted. Although it’s not 100% complete yet, it’s come a long way since we got it.
Havasu Falls, Vegas & Los Angeles
A well-deserved break from the renovations and it was exactly the escape and break we needed. Havasupai area was beautiful and the journey to get there was a new challenge. Vegas and LA is always an easy getaway.
Austin & South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference
It was the best design conference I’ve ever attended… The entire city, Austin came alive to celebrate tech, film and music. I was also fortunate to attend with my two close friends and coworkers.
More PNW with family
Hong-li & Perry visited in March, my parents and relatives visited us in June and Danny and Grace came in September. It’s always so nice to see our friends and family from abroad.
More Oregon
With Eastern Oregon on my 2017 goals, I set out with Chi and my Parents to explore Painted Hills, Smith Rock and Multnomah Falls.
Our Wedding
What a mix of emotions leading up and during our wedding week. Despite the devastating news to change venues, it was unforgettable and the happiest time of my life to have celebrated it with some of the most important people in my life.
Mexico
Aside from getting married, we had a blast spending time with our friends and family in Puerto Vallarta. Grutas Tolantongo was a magical place and Oaxaca was so delicious and festive for Day of the Dead.
Thailand
Like the country, our honeymoon was a mix of everything and just what I wanted—city life in Bangkok, culture in Chiang Mai and nature in Phuket and the islands.
Enchant Christmas
A massive Christmas light display in Seattle, I had to go see it! Chi planned with for my Birthday and I got to explore it with our good friends Lewis & Sarah.
A new car!
With Chi working and a varied commute, it made sense to get a vehicle. I’d rather get a sporty sedan but it didn’t make sense for Chi’s work so we got a spacious SUV.
2019 Goals
2019 will be a “honeymoon” year for us. We have a car to explore the Pacific Northwest and we won’t be as busy with the house or wedding planning compared to 2018. Not to mention, we have no kids and can splurge with our dual income lifestyle.
[ ] Finish the house (Exterior too!)
[ ] Visit Palouse Falls
[ ] Visit Crater Lake
[ ] Go snowboarding a ton, since we skipped last season
[ ] Hike to ‘The Wave’ (Got our permits already!)
[ ] Hike to Goldmyer Hot Springs
[ ] Take Chi to camp in Olympics National Park
[ ] Camp in Zion National Park & Hike the Narrows and Angels Landing
[ ] Attend Burning Man
[ ] Hawaii Trip (Maui for Yuliya & Adams’ big day!)
[ ] Start a home decor instagram and/or blog
2019 will be an interesting year as we figure out what is next for us… Starting a family? Moving back to Canada? Taking time off to travel? Maybe even flip another home!? We aren’t in a rush for these answers… (enjoying this honeymoon year!) but it will be something in the back of my mind.
