[Trip] Montreal – Cassie’s Bachelorette

As one of Cassie’s bridesmaid, I helped plan her bachelorette in Montreal. The itinerary was a total surprise and of course we had some special treats and activities involved. As she was also a big foodie, I selected the places to take her.

Day 1 – Saturday September 3, 2011

We started driving up to Montreal on Saturday at 5am. Boy, were we all tired with little sleep. We had a pitstop where we made everyone eat some delicious manly jello.

Enjoying a Jello Treat

We started driving up to Montreal on Saturday at 5am. Boy, were we all tired with little sleep. We arrived in Montreal at noon and headed to lunch. Cassie had no idea where and she thought it was juliette et chocolat since we were walking towards it and her other girlfriends highly recommend that place.  We walked pass it to Laurier Gordon Ramsay and she was totally surprised and excited as she was a big fan!

I was already impressed at the water! It was cucumber water and I had never had that before. It was so refreshing with a gentle hint of cucumber.

I ordered the rotisserie chicken and it was really good but I wouldn’t say OMFG good. Presentation of some of the dishes were great though.

We had some extra time before our hotel check in so we headed next door to Juliette et Chocolat for dessert. I was full but could not resist since I know their crepe was the best I’ve ever had. This time, I shared a sundae with Ashley and the ice cream was as good as I remembered. The fruit was so fresh and the ice cream was so smooth. Here, we played naughty two truths and lie to get to know everyone better.

Right after, Cassie went with her sister to pick up some alcohol and I went with Ashley to pick up the car. The other four girls went to pick their car and told us to meet up with them since we parked in different areas. I drove to the other car and when they led us, they didn’t turn to the alcohol store. I thought we needed to pick up Cassie, but maybe they picked her up already since they had a van. Their van looked more full too. Driving along for at least 5 mins, Cassie txts us “where are you guys?” oh shat! We forgot the bride… So we turned back to picked them up.

Finally, we get to the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth and checked in. We all started getting ready for the fun night ahead. 8 girls, one bathroom… but we made it out alive and presentable.

With her gals

We had dinner at Holder and the food was excellent! Way better than I had expected! I had the duck confit and I tried the lobster ravioli. Cassie enjoyed her fish as well. We played another game here where we all shared girly secrets.

After that we had a night of fun, which I won’t go into to much detail but it involved diesel, surfing, a tattoo, beads, lots of dancing and no condoms.

We headed to bed late and we were all exhausted from being up since 5am. I was knocked out. The rest of the girls all had to get up to go the church the next morning. I skipped this venture because I was to tired and would end up sleeping during mass. Apparently, all the girls did end up sleeping during mass at one point and kept thinking about the night before.

Day 2 – Sunday September 4, 2011

We met up for lunch in Old Montreal at Chez Crepiere Suzette. It was better than what I had expected. My savoury ham crepe with bechamel sauce was good but nothing to go crazy over.

Savoury Crepe

After lunch, we told Cassie we were going on a jet boat to throw her off but really we going to the Scandinavian Spa.

It was relaxing and just as enjoyable as I remembered. I also got to save 10% off for checking in via foursquare (a social game on smartphones) This was super sweet and I love foursquare.

Wish we had more time to relax but we had to get ready for dinner. Carine told us she parked the van out of the way from the dinner restaurant so she was gonna take our bathing suits and stuff back to the car, while the others head to the restaurant. We kept walking together… Then I told her the restaurant is right on xaiver and she was like “What?! I parked there…” So without knowing, they parked next to the restaurant, Garde Manger Luckily, the restaurant had no signage and Cassie had no clue that was it. She was the one that told us she wanted to eat here since the chef has his own show on the Food Network and apparently he beat Bobby Flay, the American Iron Chef.

Delicious!

The restaurant was small, we were split into two tables of four, the menu was only shown on the wall and the food took forever… But it was completely worth it.

I had the scallops and bacon dish but tried the lobster poutine, duck with foie gras, fish with Spanish rice and deep fried mars bar with ice cream. Every dish had unique flavor and it was delicious!

After our meal, we went back to our hotel and told Cassie we were going to a drag show. We drank a bit and laughed over E-P! and Frintstones. Then we headed to our real activity, karaoke!

We belted out the tunes for a couple of hours and went back to the hotel. Somehow we all ended up just chatting and laughing about boys and random things for the next hour before calling it a night.

Day 3 – Monday September 5, 2011

We started the morning early with breakfast at L’Avenue. Their food was as delicious as I remembered. I had an omelette this time and it was huge! Made from 4 eggs, I only managed to finish 1/2 of it. Everyone enjoyed it as much I did. Definitely, the best breakfast place I’ve been to.

We were all so full we decided to go for stroll and we found this Macaron shop called Point G. I had Macarons before and found I didn’t really like it. It was too dry or too sweet. I wasn’t interested in buying some but when I went to check in on foursquare, I learnt that they give you one for free with your first check in! Sweet, I scored with foursquare again! I got a sample of their caramel and omg, it was so good! Very strong flavor, perfect sweetness and it melted in your mouth. I fell in love with them and now had to buy some to bring back.

I fell in love with Macarons

Before leaving Montreal, we picked up Schwartz smoked meat sandwiches and Fairmount bagels as souvenirs.

We stopped at the OLG slots half way for a bathroom break and decided to try our luck. Cassie got three flaming 7s in a row!! But she only selected one credit so she didn’t win… If she used two credits, she would have won $200! Oh well, now we know… Always play max bet.

We got back in the evening and said our goodbyes until the wedding. It was an amazing weekend with lots of laughing, fun activities, girly chats and top-notch food. I cannot wait to head back, probably another long weekend next year.
