Kayaking the Humber River

Kayaking has been on my bucket list for a while not and I pictured myself trying it sometime in the Caribbean but then the opportunity came up to try it in Toronto on the Humber River this past weekend.

It was a cool day as the forecast called for thunder showers in the afternoon. My friends and I got a 3 minute lesson and was told it would be very initiative once you get in the water. My only fear was flipping the kayak and being stuck underwater! Luckily, that didn’t happen.

The water was at a standstill and quite dirty looking actually. I didn’t want to fall in that water. The group was about 15 people with a mix of single and tandem kayaks and two double canoes. We launched one at a time and was told to stay in between the bridges until everyone was in the water.

The guide was right! It became very intuitive and easy to paddle and steer since there was no current. Just don’t lean on one side too much because you’ll lose balance and fall in.

hello!

It was fun! And I enjoyed being so low on the surface of the water. I would do it again but prefer in cleaner water and maybe one of those clear see-through kayaks! Rapids might be too much for me.
