Intro to Dragonboating
I’ve never tried dragonboating before but I have some friends who have done it and say good things. I really enjoy paddling and Sabrina mentioned how we’ve never dragonboated before. So when MEC Paddlefest offered the opportunity for only $10… we signed up for two clinics/workshops. Brig & her friend Dave, also joined us for the morning session.
It was a great clinic! The instructors were knowledgable, friendly and helpful. We learned the basics of dragonboating and got about an 1.5 hour in the water practicing them. It’s pretty tiring but still fun. In the afternoon session, we got to practice our technique and focus more on perfecting our stokes. I also switch sides of the boat to ensure an even upper body workout. This time around, I was leading the left side!
It was a great day on the water. Although, I had a great time…I don’t think I would take it up since I’m not very competitive and I don’t want to paddle on one side… I still prefer kayaking and plan to keep practising that… maybe I’ll buy a kayak and maybe even take up white water kayaking… eventually…
