5K Foam Fest
5K Foam Fest is a new fun run with 16 obstacles and foam along the way. Half of the obstacles were similar to warrior dash and spartan race and the other half were fun inflatables. I’ve been waiting two years for the Ridiculous Obstacle Course to hit Canada but no luck yet and this run was close enough with the slip and slides, bouncy castles and foam.
We arrived around 10:00am to sign in, pick up our bibs and drop off our bags. We joined the next wave which starts every 15 minutes. This flexible wave time surprisingly worked out well and wasn’t too packed. The start line was filled with foam! We played around in it until we counted down to start. The organizers didn’t skimp on the foam… We were waist deep in the ticklish foam with wet shoes standing on the mushy grass.
When we started running, the first 100 meters was uphill! Hahahah, we walked it. Then we had to crawl through a mud pit and get through couple of climbing obstacles. Like always, the toughest obstacle is the massive steep climb up the ski hill.
The best obstacles were the inflatables and the tube crossing. We bounced around in the “chamber of foam” and the “body washer” –very nostalgic of my childhood.
On the other hand, I’ve never been on a slip and slide before! I finally got to try it after years of watching the crocodile mile slip n’ slide commercial. It was pretty fun but I liked the “death drop” massive inflatable slide more.
We laughed the most during the tube crossing where we attempted to roll across tubes tied together on a shallow pond. This was surprisingly very fun but challenging too.
The final obstacle, a slip and slide covered in foam was pretty epic. It was so slippery that you pick up a lot of speed before plunging in the pool. There was so much foam it went in my nose and mouth! Because of this, we crossed the finish line drenched head-to-toe in foam.
Here are the highlights of the run on my GoPro.
This fun run was great and it was well organized for their first time in Canada. Check in and bag drop was smooth and quick. Throughout the obstacles, there was a good amount of foam and minimal lines. At the end, there were hoses to rinse off and tents to change in. The festival area was small but fine. My only complaint was that they needed a water station at the top of the hill climb and at the finish. Regardless, I would definitely recommend this run for a morning of laughter and a great time with friends. It’s perfect for families and kids too.
