[Trip] Cayo Coco, Cuba
It was an unexpected trip that just happened within two weeks of departure. I wanted to travel in-between jobs but had no time to plan much or anyone to travel with. Little did I know, my best friend Linda also wanted to go away before she has her baby girl. We finalized within a few days and then booked an all-inclusive plan-free getaway to Cuba.
Snorkelling
The first and last time I snorkelled was in Cuba in 2009. It was a difficult experience but I have since improved. I practiced on our beach resort which was bordered by coral and fish. Afterwards, I went on two excursions where it was simply amazing to swim with so much water life. I was hesitant at first due to my 2009 poor experience… but this time was unbelievable and I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone.
Playa Pilar
We took the local bus to the most beautiful beach in Cayo Coco. The water was crystal clear with many fish to see. We even saw a sea cucumber!
It was one of the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen… just like the perfect beach you see in the cuba tourism brochures.
Hobie Cat
This small catamaran that our group shared was quite a unexpected thrilling and intense ride. We were tilting and hitting the waters but only had one casualty… linda’s sunglasses. It was fantastic to be out in the waters with the sea breeze in your face.
Pedal Boating
We rented this twice and explored this small peninsula. It was a quiet beach with gentle waves but we had to leave shortly to return the boat. Some frenchies started to take our docked boat! Mike goes up and sits inside… and they gave him attitude with a “Excuse me!?” Mike responded with a “No, excuse you… this is my boat”. Who just takes someone boat?!
Speedboating
Chi and I drove a 2-seater speedboat and holy geez… it was fast! I was screaming while Chi was driving because it felt like we could flip! Man, you could have gotten some air on this! Eeeeeeek.
Lenny’s grill
Chi and I took a retro taxi to Playa Prohibida to enjoy a lobster dinner for about $20. We also explored this beach a bit and enjoy the out-of-resort meal on our last night.
It was just what I need… sit around and do nothing but swim and play in the water all day. The only thinking I would have to do is “pool or beach?” I got a nice tan but also slightly burnt. The resort was great and food was decent. It was the perfect trip to relax before the big move.
