[Trip] Kanazawa, Japan
We had two days in this lesser known city north of Tokyo but it was my favorite because of the sights and geisha districts. I guess I’m also bias since we arrived during Sakura full bloom so the city was lit up with cherry blossoms.
Kenroku-en Gardens was the most memorable and largest garden I visited in Japan. It well-deserving of Japan’s top three gardens.
It was serene to walk around with minimal tourists and spotting couples in traditional Japanese attire for wedding photos.
Kanazawa Castle was lovely to see and wander the grounds. We also learnt how the wooden castle is built with nails, nuts or metal rods but just beams and pillars interlocking together.
Myoryuji Temple, the “Ninja Temple” was another fascinating sight to tour. This temple was a labyrinth with deceptive doors, tunnels and other defense traps. I love the paper back stairs where you can see footsteps of intruders and be able to stab them. Chi loved the master room with 5 hidden doors.
We headed to Higashi Chaya old town, a samurai and geisha district with preserved old buildings. The surroundings were beautiful and there were lots of shops to explore.
We ended the day by exploring the outdoor spaces around the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.
