[Trip] Winter Caving in Collingwood

For ringing in 2011, I thought let’s go to Blue Mountain, rent a chalet and go do some winter activities! We found a great inexpensive place up at Cranberry Resort that was even cheaper the hotels in the area! I found a great snowshoeing and cave exploring tour through the group buys that worked well into our weekend. Of course, I worked the Scandinavian Spa at Blue Mountain into our plans, especially after the amazing I had in the Montreal location.

Day 1 – December 31, 2010

We started the day out with Breakfast at Terminal 4′ big breakfast and the place was very nice with good food. We drove up to Collingwood and got started with our snowshoeing and caving tour! The tour guides drove us to Mecaf Rock and we walk about 15-20mins to the caves in snowshoes! The snowy scenery was gorgerous and peaceful.

We arrived at the caves and we have no idea there were caves because we were literally crawling in a small gap in-between giant rocks! Each time the tour guide pointed the enterance to us, we were all like… What? How can we fit? But we always manage to fit. Inside the caves, one at a time we make it through and into a larger cave opening. It would be pitch black if it wasn’t for our helmet lights. It was exhilarating and such an amazing experience. I highly recommend this! No experience needed and it’s for all ages!

We returned to the chalet and got ready for dinner at azzura trattoria. The pasta i order was okay but chris and I really liked the duck confit! Rang in 2011 in the chalet and played the card game Apples to Apples!

Day 3 – January 2, 2011

We were planning to hit the slopes but it was 7 degrees out and raining! So we opt staying in, playing more games until around 4:30 we headed to the scandanavian spa. It was beautiful and very relaxing! I’ve never been at a outdoor hot bath before so your head would cool and the rest of your body was hot. After you do hot, your suppose to do a cold plunge or shower and boy that part kind sucked cuz it was cold! But once you go back into the hot bath, you feel much better! Wished we went snowboarding before since the hot baths would have been even more appropriate.

Day 2 – January 1, 2011

The weather was -3 so we went snowboarding bc that’s what we came up to blue for! However, the ground was insanely snowy from the rain the day before but we just tanked it. I can see myself improving and hopefully I’ll be going down big hills in no time!

Overall great trip! Wish we could have had better weather but the activities we did do made up for it! Really learn to appreciate winter and its natural beauty. I’m hoping Blue Mountain becomes a yearly tradition since it was a lot of fun!
