London, England
We had a mere 1 1/2 days in London en route to Seychelles. I’ve been before in 2008 but it was Chi’s first time so all the main sights were due.
Food
The food was more impressive than the last as I actually researched places to eat compared to my budget post-graduation trip. The fish and chips from Poppies were great (best tartar sauce I’ve ever had). My avocado breakfast toast from Wosley paired with the dining environment was top notch. Bao was a modern Taiwanese eatery with unique small “bao” plates.
Sights
We headed to the British Museum to visit some of the permanent exhibits. The view of the central foyer still impresses me. The mummies and the Easter island head were my favorite artifacts.
We went up the London Eye as Chi wanted to go. Unfortunately Big Ben was getting a facelift until 2021!
We took a hop-on hop-off double-decker bus to see central London. We hopped off at the Tower Bridge to admire the riverscape. Chi was impressed with the mix of old classic buildings and modern skyscrapers.
We saw a few guards marching in front of Buckingham Palace… and a ton of tourists in front of the gate. I feel like the number of tourists has greatly increased since my last Europe trip in 2008.
We wandered around Piccadilly Circus and briefly shopped on Regent’s Place. Fortnum & Mason was a charming English department store filled with tea, picnic hampers, and other elegant gifts.
While our stopover was brief, we love London enough to return and see the countryside. I have to make way to the coast and see Stonehenge.
